Wells for Turkana
Solar-powered water points for 14 villages where women walk four hours a day for water.
In the north of Turkana the nearest safe water can be a four-hour walk away. Girls carry it before school, so many stop going. Shallow wells dry up by February.
What your gift builds
Each water point is a borehole drilled with a local crew, a solar pump, a 10,000-litre tank and a tap stand within ten minutes of every home. A village committee runs it and a trained mechanic keeps it working.
Where the appeal stands
Nine of the fourteen water points are drilled. The rest will be finished before the long rains in April, when the roads close.
Give to this cause
